Gene Watson, The King of Country Soul and Rhonda Vincent, the Queen of Bluegrass make a perfect couple together - they learned that on stage, and now they display it on record. The fantastic recordings on Your Money and My Good Looks were originally released in 2011 and are now available again in 2021.
Gene Watson boasts a light ingratiating country tenor, while Vincent is a more strident alto, which tends to reverse the expected sound in male/female singing, although it is not unlike the classic sound of George Jones and Tammy Wynette in some respects.
Watson and Vincent hark back to that duo by turning in a traditional country effort, the fiddle-and-steel-guitar-dominated arrangements suggesting the record could have been made any time since the 1950s.
