You're Only Lonely
The Ex-Mavericks frontman with the big voice has produced an interesting collection of covers. Raul Malo's album You're Only Lonely is the perfect showcase for the Orbison-like soaring tones of the latin heart-throb.
The title track was a hit for JD Souther back in the seventies, and producer Peter Asher manages to produce a string-laden sound as the accompaniment to Malo's classic voice. A slowed-down version of the Everly Brothers So Sad and a take on the Bee Gees' Run To Me are a couple of of the more eclectic cuts on You're Only Lonely, along with a soulful church rendition of Willie Nelson's Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground.
More smoky jazz club balladeering than country, this will please the legions of Malo fans.
