Willy Clay Band E.P.
Sweden's Willy Clay Band have a big impact on the Americana scene since the release of their album Rebecca Drive in 2005. Their tight harmonies and sensitive songwriting coupled with an authentic country-rock vibe reminiscent at times of the Flying Burrito Brothers have built the band a significant following in the USA and Europe.
Their May 2007 release is an E P of five songs, two new cuts, a couple of live favourites and a re-working of one of their best-loved songs. Hollow and The Miner sound fresh and vibrant without compromising the style that has won them so many admirers. Nothing is lost either with the intimate, acoustic version of Soldier. Sweden's Tine Valand (from Somebody's Darling) adds an extra dimension to the song with her soaring vocals.
The two live cuts are covers - an inspired version of the Julie Miller classic All My Tears, and a spirited, country-rock take on Neil Young's Long May You Run.
This is a stop-gap for the fans while WCB finalise their follow-up to Rebecca Drive, but is no less worthy for that, and serves as a timely reminder of just how good these guys are.
