We'll Never Turn Back is a moving tribute to the Civil Rights Movement of the sixties by Mavis Staples, one of the most vociferous and significant elements in the movement towards change as part of the Staple Singers.

This 2007 release is produced by the inimitable Ry Cooder, and features heavyweight backing from Mike Elizondo, Jim Keltner and Joachim Cooder. An intensely personal statement, the music seems even more chilling and pertinent with the contributions of the original Freedom Singers and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

The rich vocal performances from Mavis Staples are supplemented by some ad-lib contributions likening the injustice of those dark days to the problems suffered by the black population in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
