Waylon Jennings
Waylon Jennings was one of the original pioneers of Outlaw Country. Jennings was also bass player for Buddy Holly on the fateful Winter Dance Party tour in 1959, giving up his seat to the Big Bopper on the plane that crashed killing Buddy, Richie Valens and the Bopper.
Frustrated throughout the sixties at the contraints of the 'Nashville Sound', in 1976, Jennings began his career-defining collaborations with Willie Nelson on the compilation album Wanted: The Outlaws!, country's first platinum record.
By the eighties, Waylon had succumbed to drug problems, and he ended up bankrupt before again resurrecting his career in the nineties. In mid 1999 Jennings formed The Waymore Blues Band with a January 2000 recording of one of his concerts at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium becoming Jennings' final album, Never Say Die: Live.
On February 13, 2002, Waylon died in his sleep of diabetic complications at the age of 64
