Vernon Oxford
Vernon Oxford moved to Nashville in 1964 to find fame as a country singer, but found that his traditional honky-tonk was out of favour during that particular period in time.
Harlan Howard helped Oxford get a recording contract, but he paid the price for the lack of commercial success and was eventually dropped by his label.
Surprisingly, Vernon Oxford found himself popular in the UK in the following decade, and enjoyed some success in America as his albums were re-released on the strength of his new-found fame. He took a break in the late seventies, re-emerging performing gospel music in the eighties.
