Joe Gracey and Bobby Earl Smith, aka the Jackalope Brothers recorded Turn Row Blues at Sunbird Studios in Spicewood, Texas, in two sessions in February and April of 2003, with James Burton playing Dobro on 7 cuts and Lloyd Maines on Dobro on 6 tracks.
The vocals and instruments are 'scratch'. The only overdubs are Burton playing 'tic-tac' guitar on one cut and Warren Hood adding fiddle to 3 songs during a trip home from college over spring break. Sunbird sits out back of the main house next to the chicken coop on the Gracey homestead. The James Burton session was recorded on a cold and rainy winter day with a Franklin stove for warmth. The Lloyd Maines session was cut on a blue spring day with the front door open to the cool hill country breeze.
Turn Row Blues features 9 new original songs and 4 old favorites.
