Travel Log
Maine's Rod Picott may well have his equals as a writer of intensely personal songs - his long-time friend and writing partner Slaid Cleaves comes to mind - but it's extremely doubtful that he has any peers. Go to any any of the tracks on the live Travel Log and you'll find a song of warmth, wit, insight and intelligence. Picott wastes neither a word or note in the pursuit of excellence.
As a writer he plunders his own experiences and his family's history with the skill and voracity of a pirate. If the family Picott has any dark secrets they'd do well to keep them well away from young Rod. But that hunger does lead to marvellous moments like Tiger Tom Dixon's Blues, written about a relative who is best described as a 'character', it's a song full of honest passion. ~ Full Review at Net Rhythms
