Dwight Yoakam - Tomorrow's Sounds Today

Released in 2000, Tomorrow's Sounds Today sees Dwight Yoakham returning to what he does best, old school, honky tonk country with a large helping of that famed Bakersfield sound.

Indeed the late, great Buck Owens, Dwight Yoakam's major influence guests on three tracks including the wonderful I Was There featuring the growling guitar of Pete Anderson and Alright, I'm Wrong with some superb accordion courtesy of Flaco Jimenez.

Favourite track for me out of the featured fourteen is a cover of the Cheap Trick hit, I Want You To Want Me. This track shows Dwight Yoakham returning to the sounds of the late seventies when country artistes were sometimes seen as brash, cocky and just slightly dangerous, the song delivered here in his famed Kentucky drawl.

Tomorrow's Sounds Today is a must for any fan of Dwight Yoakham and indeed for any fan of music remotely country. ~ James Soars
