Tommy Duncan
Tommy Duncan left home at seventeen and by 1932 was busking in Fort Worth. He joined the Light Crust Doughboys, and became a sensation, both on the show and at dances. Bandleader Bob Wills formed his own band and he and Duncan became the creative force of The Texas Playboys.
In his work with Wills, Duncan sang everything from ballads to folk, pop and western music. He contributed to the writing of The New San Antonio Rose in 1940 with Tommy on vocals it sold three million copies for Columbia Records.
Duncan's voice matured in 1940s, and he became a star in his own right, and a major influence on latter day stars such as Merle Haggard.
