Tommy Allsup
In 1958 Tommy Allsup met Buddy Holly, who asked him to join his new band, which was to replace The Crickets.
Along with Waylon Jennings on bass, and Carl Bunch on drums he played on the ill-fated Winter Dance Party tour, where Buddy Holly was killed in an airplane crash on February 3, 1959.
Allsup is famous for losing the coin toss with Ritchie Valens for a seat on the plane. After Holly's death, Tommy Allsup did session work before becoming a record producer and eventually played guitar with and produced some of the biggest names in Country music.
