It is difficult to believe that the eight traditional country tracks on this mini-album by husband-and-wife team The Wrights can have slipped through the net of the major labels, but such is the state of play in Nashville today that the bombastic pop of Big & Rich and Rascal Flatts has completely overwhelmed the quiet quality of any old-school projects.

Independent-released, despite Adam Wright being a nephew of Alan Jackson, The Wrights features heartbreak songs performed with timeless perfection, using pedal steel and harmonies, with Shannon Wright's country vocal style particularly poignant.

Three years after their debut Down This Road, The Wrights is a short but sweet reminder of how contemporary country should be played.
