The Long Ryders

The Long Ryders classic lineup is Sid Griffin, Stephen McCarthy, Tom Stevens and Greg Sowders.

Formed in Los Angeles in the early 1980s, The Long Ryders had a sound reminiscent of Gram Parsons-era Byrds, Buffalo Springfield or The Flying Burrito Brothers. They were cited as being one of the original alt.country outfits, but pre-dated the movement by some 10 years.

Former Byrd Gene Clark added vocals to one of their songs, but the band eventually disbanded in 1987 leaving a significant legacy which creative force Griffin went on to champion as a solo artist.

The Long Ryders reunited briefly in 2004.
