The Kentucky Colonels
Clarence White started the Kentucky Colonels in the mid-1950s in the Los Angeles area.
The Colonels were playing Progressive Bluegrass in the days before it was labeled as such, and they recorded a number of albums in the early sixties.
The focus of the Kentucky Colonels was undoubtedly the fast, percussive flat picking of Clarence White, who went on to become a noted guitarist with The Byrds.
