The Jealous Kind
For many the release of The Jealous Kind in 2004 brought them into contact for the first time with the gruff tones of Chris Knight, and many fans would cite the album as Knight's very best.
The passion of the title track, and its driving rhythm was a milestone, but only hinted at the even deeper and more heartfelt lyrics of Train Not Running and Long Black Highway. It is an earnest album, from a very earnest person. His tales of hardship and working men are spoken from someone who has experienced this at first hand, and his dark tales from the road are something very personal that he is sharing with us.
Chris Knight has a chip on his shoulder, but he wears that chip proudly. The Jealous Kind is roughly hewn out of rock and coal, much like Knight's own mining experiences in Kentucky. Top class album from one of the very best singer-songwriters around.
