The Historical Conquests Of
Such a high brow title as this could well make you think that The Historical Conquests Of Josh Ritter is an overblown prog rock concept album complete with swathes of synth. How wrong you would be, this is the loudest album Josh Ritter has ever produced, walls of electric guitars and waves of brass also making it a most up-tempo album as well.
The opening track of the fourteen on offer here To The Dogs Or Whoever, is a real foot stomper, an ode to love, but delivered in a noisy bar room style. I love to hear a powerful opening track, and this song ticks all the boxes, making you look forward to the rest of the album.
The pace doesn't slow down much either on the following track Mind's Eye; this really is a most commercial sounding track, perfect for National radio airplay, a hit if ever I heard one.
One could say that The Historical Conquests Of Josh Ritter is his most commercial; I prefer to say that this is definitely his best release to date.
