In 1957 Joe Melson teamed up with a virtual unknown by the name of Roy Orbison at Monument Records, where together they wrote a string of massive worldwide hits.
Between 1960 and 1963, Joe Melson recorded several singles of his own for Hickory Records, and The Hickory Records Collection features songs written by Melson, Roy Orbison and their friends.
Melson is best known for writing classics such as Only the Lonely, Crying and Blue Bayou with Roy Orbison, and for creating the dramatic rock ballad style.
Melson is accompanied on these recordings by Floyd Cramer, Boots Randolph, the Jordanaires, the Antia Kerr Singers, Roy Orbison and other renowned musicians of the day.
