The Best of Linda Ronstadt: The Capitol Years is a lavish 2 CD set featuring in their entirety Ronstadt's four albums recorded for Capitol records, plus additional unreleased out-takes and live cuts.

The four albums in the set date from 1969 to 1974; Hand Sown ... Home Grown, Silk Purse, Linda Ronstadt and Heart Like A Wheel. Linda Ronstadt was an important figure in the early California country-rock movement, but the first of these albums showcased her pure country and honky-tonk leanings, before the follow up Silk Purse was released, which added in some pop balladeering.

Ronstadt's self-titled album saw her using the collective LA talents of Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner, who would of course later become the Eagles. 1974's Heart Like A Wheel was undoubtedley the breakthrough album, resulting in a pop chart-topping single and a Grammy award.

This compilation is essential listening for anyone interested in the development of the West Coast country-rock scene, and the additional tracks featured on the The Best of Linda Ronstadt: The Capitol Years will ensure there is something in it for long-term fans too.
