Dar Williams - The Beauty Of The Rain

The Beauty Of The Rain is Dar Williams' fifth studio album, and should see her make the transition from the coffee house/folk circuit to a mainstream audience. Long time Williams fans will no doubt be concerned that the rock overtones on this album mean a shift from her roots, but there is enough of the Dar Williams of old in The Beauty Of The Rain to ensure her fanbase will not be deserting her.

The mature songwriting we have come to expect is still very much in evidence, but perhaps not as heavy-handed as on previous outings. An 'A' list of artists add to the enjoyment of the album wihout ever overtaking it, and in particular the opportunity for Dar Williams to share vocals with John Popper of Blues Traveler and Alison Krauss enhance things even further.

Still a folk singer at heart, The Beauty Of The Rain has exquisite melodies and thoughtful lyrics, and may just convert a few fans of mainstram singer/songwriters to the folk cause.
