Taking The Long Way [CD + DVD]
The Dixie Chicks are the biggest-selling female band in history, and their 2006 release Taking The Long Way was one of the most eagerly-anticipated releases of the year.Their notorious swipe at the presidency of George W Bush won and lost them fans in equal measure, and the personal and political subject matter of Taking The Long Way was a further calculated risk.
Enlisitng the help of writers such as Sheryl Crow, Gary Louris, and Keb' Mo', the Chicks' writing involvement has resulted in them laying out their lives as honestly and intimately as possible. Musically the album is rocky, but not overly so. There is a West Coast vibe about some of the tracks, and a clear sixties influence throughout.
This version released six months after the single CD version of Taking the Long Way, adds in a bonus DVD featuring live performances, some new interview footage with producer Rick Rubin, and the video clip for the single Not Ready to Make Nice.
