Stories From The Silver Moon Cafe is the first cd of new songs and indeed some re-recordings of earlier work from Mickey Newbury since 1996. This superb album covers all the musical bases with country, blues, jazz, ballads, all having that magic touch that only a musical genius such as Mickey Newbury could create.

As usual with most albums by Newbury we find the sounds of barking dogs, chirping crickets and the noise of passing trains and cars in between the songs, all making for a most atmospheric listening experience.

Classic songs such as Oh Mama, with its country overtones and a reworking of Ain't No Blues Today are a master class in the song writing process. Any album by the late, great Mickey Newbury is a must for any record collector. ~ James Soars
