South Of the Big Town [Deluxe CD + Vinyl LP]
Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers bassist Danny White has released a debut solo album, South Of The Big Town. The album was co-produced with Peacemakers drummer PH Naffah.
The album comprises of ten tracks of powerful but melodic rock, with more than a little homespun Americana about them. The excellent autobiographical Harrison County closes the album, with 1983 sandwiched in the middle of the album. The latter describing the selling off of farms to corporate moneymakers, and is clearly sung from the heart and personal experience.
The production is top drawer, with a BIG drum and guitar sound throughout, but never overshadowing White's drawl, or burying his lyrics. Tom Petty fans will find much to enjoy, although the heartland rock feel on South Of The Big Town never becomes cliched.
Collectors will get misty-eyed at the lavish gatefold sleeve which contains a white vinyl LP (entitled East Side and West Side) as well as a CD version of the album.
