Solace For The Lonely
The singularly hard-to-define RobinElla has been described as jazz, pop, funk and soul, but the overriding flavour is undoubtedley country on Solace For The Lonely. That is, country as per the rootsy, earth tones of Lucinda or Tift as opposed to the manufactured pop of Faith or Carrie.
Solace for the Lonely is RobinElla's fourth release, and fans of the earlier releases will still find some bluegrass influences, but perhaps more in the style of Alison Krauss. Whippin' Wind brings to mind the acoustic quality of Patty Griffin, but remembering the unique talents of Doug Lancio have been brought into the producer's chair this is hardly surprising.
The suffix of 'and the CC String Band' has been dropped from the band's title and it would seem as though this has set out a stall for being more exploratory; an interesting cover of Melanie's Brand New Key being a case in point. Deceptively simple, Solace For The Lonely enearths hidden depths on every play.
