Joshua Bell & Edgar Meyer - Short Trip Home

Short Trip Home sees an interesting collaboration between bluegrass composer (and renowned bass guitarist) Edgar Meyer and classical violinist Joshua Bell. Some of the most famous names in the acoustic roots scene have joined Bell and Meyer on this recording. Fiddle and mandolin player Sam Bush (of the New Grass Revival) and Mike Marshall of David Grisman's band.

A classical bassist of some note, Edgar Meyer has also contributed heavily to the bluegrass movement with his crossover instrumentation. Improvisation of course plays a big part in the music on Short Trip Home, but it is more tightly constructed and authored as in say, Jazz. This is bluegrass and acoustic music with classical overtones, but is marketed as a classical album through Sony. It is likely that the bluegrass fraternity will get more out of this than classical music fans.
