Shelby Lynne
Shelby Lynne grew up in Jackson, Alabama with her younger sister Allison Moorer. Lynne's father, an abusive alcoholic, shot and killed her mother and then himself when Lynne was 17.
The two sisters moved to Nashville where Shelby landed a recording contract with Epic Records and teamed with producer Billy Sherrill for her 1989 debut album Sunrise.
Charting regularly through the nineties her country-pop brought her many admirers. However, frustrated at the lack of creative freedom she moved on to a independent label to record a Bob Wills-style Western swing and big band jazz album. The label folded and she returned to contemporary country with Magnatone then disappeared until the turn of the century where she won critical accalim and a Grammy award for her confessional I Am Shelby Lynne album. Lynne continues to record solo albums, mostly in a rockier style, but still with country roots.
