Roy Acuff
If ever one artist conquered all the diverse facets of the country music business and made his name a legend, that man was Roy Acuff.
Not only did he establish himself as the king of country music in the 30's and 40's, he became the champion of traditional country music after becoming the leading attraction on the hallowed Grand Ole Opry.
On the business front he launched the first publishing house in Nashville, Acuff-Rose, in 1942 and followed up with the Hickory record label in the early fifties.
Add this to a recording career that spanned nigh on half a century, and you get some measure of the man's acheivements.
