Bluegrass champion Ricky Skaggs and three time Grammy winner Bruce Hornsby, who includes jazz and pop in his inlfuences have realised a long held dream to make a Bluegrass album together.

Tapping into tracks like Hornsby's own Mandolin Rain and Night on the Town and reinventing them with a bluegrass feel was brave, but perhaps their take Rick James' Super Freak demonstrates even more panache and daring. The pairing works, and traditionalists will be delighted.

Rather than being a pure commercial venture the chemistry and sense of fun in working together comes across well. The added quality of Hornsby's piano gives an extra dimension to Skaggs' band.
