Rick Danko
Canadian Rick Danko played across America with his buddies before word reached Bob Dylan that they may be a good backing band for his 'going electric.' plans. The backup band, or simply, The Band, eventually released their own album Music From Big Pink.
A rocking collection, that album was about harmonies and multiple vocalists, and was a back to roots style that disregarded the psychedelia of those days. Danko's emotive harmonies mixed with Richard Manuel's deep, blue voice defined the sound of The Band.
Danko released a solo album, but a follow-up album lay dormant as demo tapes until being reissued in 2005 as Cryin' Heart Blues. Danko died in December 1999.
