Ray Charles (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004) was an iconic American pianist and soul musician who shaped the sound of rhythm and blues. He managed to bring soul sound to country music and pop standards, and his rendition of America the Beautiful is widely respected as the definitive version of the anthem.
Frank Sinatra called Ray Charles 'the only true genius in the business' and in 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Ray Charles number 10 on their list of The Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
