Raul Malo
Raul Malo made his name as the heart-throb singer with the Roy Orbison voice in The Mavericks. The country band with a latin twist won awards and fans throughout the nineties with their retro approach, and glamorous appearance, eventually scoring a Grammy and a CMA top award.
The band folded in 2001 after a brief success in Europe (and reformed even more briefly a couple of years later) with Malo forging a successful solo career, concentrating on his calypso, carnival, jazz, salsa, and country influences.
Singularly difficult to categorise, Raul Malo has an enduring charm and continues to slip in and out of the various musical styles that have influenced him.
