Queen Of The Coast [4 CD Box Set]
Married to Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, Bonnie Owens was the Queen of Bakersfield and the original Honky Tonk Angel. Bonnie was the major female artist to emerge from the Bakersfield scene, the scene that spawned Merle Haggard, Tommy Collins, Ferlin Husky, Wynn Stewart and Buck Owens ... and inspired several generations of honky tonk singers.
Queen Of The Coast is major 2007 release from Bear Family Records of a 4 CD Set complete with hardback book containing all of Bonnie's recordings between 1953 and 1971, most of them appearing on CD for the first time.
Typically, Bear Family has sourced rare and obscure recordings, including Bonnie's original version of the country classic, A Dear John Letter with Fuzzy Owens and all of her duets with The Hag.
She won awards, she co-wrote Today I Started Loving You Again, she toured ceaselessly for decades, but saw relatively few hits. That, though, was no reflection on her talent, and Bear Family has offered this tribute to one of the true, unheralded architects of alternative country music.
