Pretty Miss Norma Jean
Pretty Miss Norma Jean, as she is fondly called by her many fans, got an early start in Country Music performing over local radio stations, and at the ripe old age of 12, she had her own radio show on station KLPR. By 18, she was a full-time vocalist with the Billy Gray Band, and had made guest appearances with Leon McAuliff and Hank Thompson.
Norma moved to Nashville, and when Porter Wagoner had an opportunity to audition for a weekly national television show, he asked Norma Jean to join him for the audition.
As a result of the television exposure, Chet Atkins signed Norma Jean to RCA where he produced many hit records for her. She recorded 31 albums, and one of her biggest hits, Let's Go All The Way, was nominated for a Grammy in 1965.
A regular member of the Opry, when she left Porter's show to get married, her place was tekan by a young performer by the name of Dolly Parton. Norma Jean still performs, taking her gospel show around the world.
