Panorama Valley
The Blind Robins' Panorama Valley end result is one of a kind of endearing honesty with a warmth which transcends any technical flaws, and allied to the idiosyncratic singing and songs of Michael Whyte, produces a curiously , ultimately satisfying sound. Whyte's lyrics are interesting with their trawl through bungled sexual exploits, venomous anti- corporate diatribes, and a seemingly all pervading obsession with religion, all underpinned with wry humour.
Particularly outstanding are the more acoustic orientated Cash and the Carters, and Panorama Valley, with drums and bass having seemingly settled their differences, the gritty, punkish Santa Clarita, which sees Whyte and Jessica Billey singing very effectivley in unison to create an eerie, almost menacing effect, and the closing You Want it, You Get it with bubbling, flowing pedal steel licks, offset by some more rather clumsy drumming. Worth a listen for those who like their country music strictly non mainstream, and laced with some sardonic humour. ~ Full review at Americana UK
