Outside The Lines
Nancy Apple plays honky-tonk and she plays country, and it is traditonal and it for real. But somehow on Outside The Lines Nancy manages to infuse some blues and some fun, managing to come up with a sound uniquely her own.
A near legend in Memphis, there is something about being out west of the home of country music that will forever mean Nancy is country of the alternative variety. Not alt.country as in shoegazing indie-rock, but an alternative to the formula-driven artificial pop that is often sold as country music.
If Twangy vocals, catchy melodies and top musicianship under a banner of feel good honky-tonk is your thing, then you could do worse than check out this release from 2000.
