One More Midnight
One More Midnight the 2007 release from Hal Ketchum stays true to the standards he has set himself; merging traditional country sounds with the astute character building in his lyrics that is more often associated with Americana artists.
Hal Ketchum's style is to deliver what he has to say in three-and-a-half-minutes and move on to the next story, so it is something of a departure to hear Poor Lila's Ghost, which clocks in at almost 15 minutes. Based around acoustic instruments, the 26 verses are sat dead centre in One More Midnight, surrounded by less intense love songs, including Forever Mine, a delicate and heartfelt tribute to his wife Gina.
There are some bluesy influences popping in and out on One More Midnight, but the overwhelming impression is of country music played with affection by one of the hardest working and most popular artists in Nashville.
