No Deals, No Promises
Celia Bryce on her debut solo CD steps out from her role as lead vocalist for the Katy Freeway Band with an album of her own songs on No Deal, No Promises, the first release from the Vermillion Road record label.
No Deals, No Promises is a heady mixture of guitar-driven country-folk-pop with memorable hooks, alongside some more bluesy cuts. Bryce gives more than a passing a nod towards her Celtic roots with the only two non-originals on the album My Lagan Love and She Moved Through The Fair, traditional tunes given new arrangements.
Interestingly, Celia makes a move towards soulful blues, cutting loose on the final two tracks on the album. (I'm A) Don't Need You Woman brings to mind Bonnie Raitt, and it will be interesting to see if this is a route she chooses to develop in the future.
