Between 1958 and 1974 the exeptional vocals of Nina Simone epitomised sultry, smoky jazz, R&B soul and gospel. Her recorded works continued up until 1993 with her final album Single Woman.
A civil rights activist, Nina Simone has been an ever-present in the consciousness of the public, particularly as her work is frequently used in movie soundtracks and commercials. Her unique style still lives on after her death in 2003, aged 70.
