Nick Lowe

Nick Lowe is an evergreen writer, producer and performer, responsible for a string of fine country-blues rock standards since his beginnings in Brinsley Schwarz in the late sixties. His best known song from those days (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding became a major hit for Elvis Costello. His best known solo hit was Cruel to Be Kind.

Lowe had a stint with Rockpile with Dave Edmunds in the seventies, and married Carlene Carter before working with Johnny Cash in the eighties who also recorded Lowe's songs. A cover by Curtis Stigers of Peace, Love, and Understanding appeared on The Bodyguard movie soundtrack.

The financial gains from those royalties allowed Lowe to stop worrying about commercial success, giving him artistic freedom to mine the wealth of American roots music, drawing on vintage country, soul and R&B to create an elegant mix of his own.
