Mickey Newbury
Texan Mickey Newbury has had his songs recorded by literally hundreds of artists, beginning his publishing career at Acuff-Rose in Nashville in the sixties. Well over 1,000 songs have been documented, and Newbury himself recorded 25 albums over a 35 year career, before his death in 2002.
Mickey Newbury's first success came in 1966 when Don Gibson, and subsequently Tom Jones in 1968, scored worldwide hits with Newbury’s Funny Familiar Forgotten Feelings. His songs crossed many genres, in 1968 he had successes in the Easy Listening, R&B, Country and Pop and Rock charts simultaneously, a feat whch has never been repeated.
A much revered figure in music, many major artists cite Newbury as their influence in their own songwriting.
