Michelle Shocked

Michelle Shocked is from Texas, but had her first break in Europe, and released her first album The Texas Campfire Tapes in the UK in 1986. Her breakthrough in the US came a couple of years later with Short Sharp Shocked.

A confirmed political activist, Shocked's album Short Sharp Shocked featured her on the cover being restrained in the chokehold of a San Francisco policeman. A later release Arkansas Traveler began to define her style, including swing, folk, and a bit of bluegrass.

Michelle Shocked's zenith came in 1995 when she released three albums on the same day; Mexican Standoff, Don't Ask Don't Tell, and Got No Strings. These resurfaced in a three-CD set, appropriately titled Threesome.
