Matters of the Heart is a 20 track celebration of Gene Watson's successful five-year career at MCA Records between 1980 and 1985.

Tracks are taken from four of Gene's MCA Records albums (Between This Time & the Next Time, Old Loves Never Die, This Dream's on Me and Sometimes I Get Lucky and of the 20 included, 12 appear on CD for the first time, alongside a couple of original versions of cuts that Watson has subsequently re-recorded.
