Mary Chapin Carpenter released her debut Hometown Girl in 1987, followed by her breakthough album State of the Heart which provided Chapin Carpenter with 4 Top 20 hits. Her 1990 release Shooting Straight in the Dark inluded a CMT hit, the Cajun-flavoured Down at the Twist and Shout, but it was her 5 million selling album Come On Come that sealed her commercial success, resulting in CMA female vocalist awards in 1992 and 1993, and a Grammy for best country album.
