Martina McBride
For such a petite person, Martina McBride packs a seriously big voice. Her debut album The Time Has Come released in 1992 gave an insight of what was to come, but riding the wave of 'New Country' in 1993 Martina's first big hit was the fresh and vibrant pop sound of My Baby Loves Me The Way That I Am.
However, it was her powerful rendition of the Gretchen Peters song Independence Day, taken from the same album The Way That I Am, that elevated her status in credibility terms. The anthem to anti-domestic violence worked on many levels, and provided her with the platform for her later successes.
16 million sales and counting, with 22 top ten singles, Martina McBride is unafraid to tackle social issues, and use her success to highlight issues close to her heart. Consistently one of America's very best performers and singers.
