Martin Simpson
Martin Simpson was born on 5 May 1953 in Scunthorpe, England and by the age of 12 he was playing guitar and banjo to a very high degree of skill. In 1970 he dropped out of college to become a full-time professional musician.
In 1976 Simpson recorded his first solo album Golden Vanity and in the same year he opened for Steeleye Span on their UK tour. Teaming up with folk singer June Tabor, Simpson toured folk clubs and appeared at festivals. They recorded three albums together.
Over the next ten years Simpson became more and more musically adventurous, playing blues, bluegrass, cajun and even Indian-inflected music.
Not until 1999 did Simpson record his own compositions, on Bootleg USA. He founded a record label called High Bohemia and as a much revered and respected guitarist, he has written guitar instruction books and recorded DVD guitar tutorials.
