Loomer
The Spring of 1999 saw Toronto's Loomer rise from the ashes of The Saddletramps. The driving force is Scott Loomer and his idiosyncratic songwriting skills. It wasn't until 2004 that what was to become and internationally-acclaimed debut album Love is a Dull Instrument was released. Loomer's songs tend to have something or a warped sense of humour about them in a typically Canadian self-deprecating way. Fusing the guitar of Son Volt with the romanticism of The Jayhawks, Scene Magazine dubbed it 'One of the finest country rock albums of the year.' Several Best of 2004 lists later, and afer completing a successful tour of the UK in the summer of 2005, Loomer got down to the task of recording their second album, the highly anticipated Songs of the Wild West Island. Released in 2006 fans can enjoy 12 new songs of hope, despair, resurrection and a 2-headed calf plus the haunting duet, Only Lovers featuring Sarah Harmer. Amongst those singing the praises of this album is revered BBC broadcaster Bob Harris. Loomer are; Andrew Lindsay, Brian Duguay, Michael Taylor, Iain Thomson , John Dehaas and Scott Loomer. As Scott himself says, 'We play because we love the music. It's not like we want our own action figures or anything. Although, that would be nice.'
