Live 1973 (with the Fallen Angels)
Gram Parsons and The Fallen Angels started the whole country rock genre and with Live 1973, we have a collection of eleven original and indeed classic compositions and a superb medley of Bony Moronie, Forty Days and Almost Grown.
Live 1973 was to be the country rock icon's final recording, taken from a radio concert broadcast, it was at a time that Emmylou Harris was still playing in The Fallen Angels and the sound quality of this live recording is first rate.
Songs such as Streets Of Baltimore, Love Hurts, Six Days On The Road and Drug Store Truck Driving Man were songs that would inspire and influence a generation; they still sound new and fresh today.
I believe that Gram Parsons was one of the greatest songwriters we have seen in the last fifty years, an artist taken way before his time, who knows what great work he could have gone on to achieve. At least we have albums such as Live 1973, to remind us how great and inspiring the man was. ~ James Soars
