Letter to Laredo
Joe Ely has become part of Texas folklore. A member of The Flatlanders in the early 70's, along with Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock, Joe Ely's bluesy rock has touched a chord with the honky-tonk dancehalls of Texas, and his continued close association with the West Texas flatlands around Lubbock has elevated his status in the Lone Star state.
Joe Ely's storytelling takes you down lonesome highways to the borders of Mexico on his album Letter To Laredo. Part cowboy, part rock 'n' roller and 100% Tex-Mex Letter To Laredo tells tales of lost loves in the inimitable Ely style - his plaintive vocals immediately recognisable. Gallo del Cielo is one of the standout tracks on Letter To laredo, a masterpiece that spent two months on the top of the Americana charts.
