One of the leading lights in country during the 1950's, Lefty Frizzell never achieved the same level of commercial success as some of his peers, but nevertheless, his influence on country music was significant with many of today's artists including Randy Travis and Dwight Yoakam citing Frizzell as a major influence on their style. Other, less country-orientated acts have also paid homage to Lefty, including Bob Dylan and The Burrito Brothers.
Lefty recorded two albums in the 70's; That's The Way Love goes and I Can't Get Over You To Save My Life that are regarded as milestone recordings. However, the flamboyant and outgoing Frizzell led a troubled life, and succumbed to a stroke after choosing alcohol rather than meds to relieve blood pressure problems. He was 47 when he died in 1975.
