Various Artists - Leadenhall Americana Festival / Smart Choice Music Sampler #4 [2xCD]

July 10th 2010 saw London’s first guaranteed ‘no mud’ festival, held inside the grand and ornate surroundings of the City’s Leadenhall Market. As part of the promotion for the event, a CD was produced which features all of the artists appearing.

This package includes a second CD, Smart Choice Music Sampler #4, which features some of our own favourite new and emerging independent artists, from the US and beyond.

We will have a strictly limited number of copies of the CD which we will give away free to anyone placing an order for over £10, but this will be limited to one copy per customer, and only while stocks last.

  • Last Train Home / Last Good Kiss
    Led by Eric Brace, Last Train Home are the standard bearers of the East Nashville alt.country community and the Red Beet Records independent label.
  • Babylon / Phil Lee
    Country Music with a Rock'n'Roll Heart, Babylon features the original members of Wilco; Ken Coomer, John Stirratt and the late Jay Bennett.
  • Long Line Of Sinners / The Orbitsuns
    From Detroit, The Orbitsuns are Motor City’s purveyors of self-styled 'low down and dirty outlaw country.'
  • You And Me / Al Perkins Big Dog 3
    Al Perkins, one of country-rock's true legends, backed here by Chris Donohue and Brady Blade as Big Dog 3. All three are Emmylou Harris alumni past and present, and Emmylou herself lends her vocal prowess to the track.
  • I'm Beginning To Forget / Elizabeth Cook
    Elizabeth's latest album Welder shows a new maturity in her songwriting and crosses some new musical barriers with the help of producer Don Was. However, the Opry influence is never far away, as this cut with Rodney Crowell on harmmony vocals aptly demonstrates.
  • Denali, Not McKinley / Eric Brace & Peter Cooper
    LTH's Eric Brace appears here in the company of Nashville songwriter Peter Cooper on a bit of lighthearted play on words take from the superbly-titled album You Don't Have To Like Them Both.
  • Shouldn't Be Doing This / Sara Petite
    Now onto her third album release, Sara has won Americana awards in her native San Diego, and is currently winning friends in Europe too, with her earthy vocal and writing style
  • Trouble Girl / Rod Picott
    The smoky vocals of Rod Picott are well known to UK audiences through his regular touring, both solo and with Amanda Shires, plus his strong musical association with Slaid Cleaves.
  • Take It Easy / Suzi Ragsdale
    The daughter of Ray Stevens, Suzi Ragsdale is a successful songwriter, and a kitchen and Yoga expert, but has still managed to find the time to put together a solo double-album, in between providing harmony vocals on countless albums by household names.
  • 1983 / Danny White
    Danny is the former bass player with Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. He had a spell playing bass for Alice Cooper, he built and runs the 16 Ton studio on Nashville's Music Row and is a novelist and stock car racer as well as being an accomplished singer-songwriter.
  • Mineral Wells / Amanda Shires
    Amanda is a fiddle player and singer-songwriter from West Texas, and as well as releasing her own albums and touring with Rod Picott, she is a much in-demand session player.
  • Keep Movin' On / The Nelson Brothers
    Simon and Steve Nelson are session players and songwriters, and enjoy an enviable reputation amongst the UK's music elite. The Nelson Brothers step out occasionally with their own album releases.
  • Black Guitar / Bex Marshall
    With a guitar skill that has been likened to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Derek Trucks, Bex is the undisputed UK queen of delta, swampy blues.
  • Ride Out / Two Fingers Of Firewater
    The UK's finest exponents of country-rock mix indie pop with their Burrito Brothers influences, and on their Sophomore release from which this track is taken, expect more sixties pop flavours to filter through.
  • One Thing Leads To Another / Sadie And The Hotheads
    Sadie and the Hotheads is the alter-ego of actress Elizabeth McGovern, best known for her appearances in UK TV dramas, and movies such as Ordinary People and Ragtime. The bouncy dance rhythms are provided courtesy of the Nelson Brothers and Goldfrapp's Rowan Oliver amongst others.
  • The Price / Andrea Glass
    Bolton's Andrea Glass recorded her debut album in Nashville with a host of A-List musicians, and has since established herself on the UK touring circuit.

  • I Speak Your Language / Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers
    The most exciting live band around, full stop. With a range of influences showing through in their music, RCPM mix indie rock with a no-nonsense blue-collar sensibility, blended with a little 'Mexican Moonshine.' 100% Independent and proud of it.
  • Tennessee Rain / Sarah McClurg
    Dynamic country-pop of the highest order, Canadian Sarah McClurg recorded her debut album in Nashville, with no little help from Danny White on production and songwriting duties. Look out for the album, packed full of instant classics, due for release in the summer of 2010.
  • Things I Ain't Proud Of / Michael Ray
    Florida's Michael Ray is contemporary country epitomised. Another exciting emerging talent mixing traditional country values with a pop approach, Michael's debut album is due for release in the Summer of 2010.
  • Fool For Now / Ange Boxall
    Ange is an Australian singer-songwriter who spends much of her time commuting between the UK and Nashville. Her stunning debut album sees Ange collaborating with Jim Lauderdale and JD Souther, amongst others. Fool For Now is a co-write with the fabulous Wrights, and Adam and Shannon also appear on the track.
  • The Woman For Me / Rayland Baxter
    The musos amongst us will know of multi-instrumentalist Bucky Baxter who played with Steve Earle for many years - Rayland is Bucky's son. Currently working on his debut album, The Woman For Me is the first song to be taken from the CD, which promises to be an outstanding debut.
  • Like A Wheel / The Railbenders
    Denver's Outlaw Country band are led by RCPM's guitar slinger Jim Dalton, and if you enjoy traditional hard country ... songs about trucks, drinking and women ... then this is definitely the band for you.
  • Daniel Lee / Sarah Borges & The Broken Singles
    Sarah and her band are a must-see live act - rockabilly, soul, country and most points in between served up at a white hot pace with an irresistible charm. Daniel Lee is taken from their self-released debut album Silver City.
  • Keeping Up Appearances / Amber Digby & Justin Trevino
    Texas country from two of the most popular artists in the SCM store - joining forces for an album of covers of country classics, and some lesser known gems. One for the true blue country purists.
  • Second Time Around / Georgette Jones
    Country music royalty - Georgette is the daughter of George Jones and the late, great Tammy Wynette. Country fans can rest assured that their legacy is in safe hands on this, another pure country release from Heart Of Texas Records. The Possum drops in to lend his distinctive tones to the proceedings on one of the finest country albums of modern times.
  • Tequila & High Heels / The Toy Hearts
    The Toy Hearts are setting the bluegrass world alight with their virtuoso musicianship and dual female high harmony vocals - but this preview from their third album showcases their broad range of styles with a self-written Western Swing inspired slice of country. Oh, and they come from Birmingham, and not the one in Alabama ...
  • Turn Away / Lilly Drumeva
    More bluegrass, this time in the form of Bulgaria's Lilly Drumeva. Lilly enjoys a cult following in the UK, but it can only be a matter of time before Lilly's excellent vocals gain mainstream exposure.
  • Nothing / Stephanie Lambring
    A young Nashville based singer with a very big future predicted for her. Stephanie's vocals and songwriting have already been promoted heavily by Bob Harris, and this taster from her forthcoming album release supports his judgment. Get Stephanie's debut CD here
  • Rhyme and Reason / Simon Todd
    A Tyneside local and proud Northumbrian, Simon Todd bridges the gap between pop and folk on his debut album. If anthemic tunes with thoughtful lyrical content are for you, then this album will suit perfectly.
  • Where's Dawn / Jason Boots
    Boots (yes, that is his real name) is part of the RCPM family, Jason provides backing vocals, trumpet duties and more for the band on tour, but this is a track taken from his second singer-songwriter solo release - good time, hummable pop for good time loving folks.
  • Garden / Bernice MacDonald
    Brighton's pop sensation has enough Joni Mitchell-esque songwriting and vocal skills to appease even the most demanding fans of American folk, but wraps it up in a multi-layered, fun musical package.
  • City Lights / Owen Harvey
    Another noteworthy emerging UK talent, Owen Harvey is building his reputation, opening for established names in and around Nottingham. This is taken from his debut CD, and is typical of the delicate, acoustic folk-pop of the album.
  • An Old Song / Brigitte DeMeyer
    This Phil Madeira song is the perfect vehicle for Brigitte's bluesy, late night jazzy vocal style. Backed by Madeira, Brady Blade, Chris Donohue and Al Perkins, this late-night weepie is taken from an album full of rootsy Americana.
