Late December
Maria McKee has always had an ability to write dramatic melodies even back in the days of her first band Lone Justice.
McKee is her own woman and has steadfastly distanced herself from her country roots over the years. On her sixth studio release, Late December, she has written a series of miniature operettas sung with dramatic vocals and grandiose guitar soloing.
Fans from the early days will enjoy the soulful country of My First Night Without You and the gospel-infused ending to the title track. There is sixties Motown on No Other Way to Love You and the inclusion of A Good Heart is a masterstroke.
This was the song that that McKee wrote at 18 years of age which became a worldwide hit for Feargal Sharkey. Maria McKee is enigmatic and a free spirit that is difficult to pigeonhole. Which is probably one of the reasons for her longevity as an artist.
